Where this began
It started with a member who simply wanted to be heard
This site was launched on June 20, 2026 — 0 days ago — by a Medi-Cal member who needed a way to find relief: a direct outlet to describe, plainly and in one place, what they had been put through.
It came after the phone calls that led nowhere. The voicemails left and never returned. The exhaustion of having to repeat your story over and over to a new person each time — customer-service representatives and grievance coordinators who, too often, seemed either unequipped for the responsibility they carried or content to keep running you in circles. After enough of those circles, you stop expecting help. You just want it to stop.
The whole journey was emotionally and mentally draining. And somewhere inside it came a quiet, steadying thought: I cannot be the only one this has happened to. Especially not for people with life-threatening conditions — the ones who can least afford to be sent, again and again, into what we call the “phantom provider” ghost referral loop: referred to a specialist, only to find the specialist is unreachable, gone, not taking the plan, or never really there at all.
The realization that changed everything
The most alarming part wasn't only what happened — it was the dawning sense that many people may not even know it happened to them. Picture being referred to a specialist, while the plan knows it has none in network, and being quietly steered to a non-specialist instead — with the patient trusting the insurer and the doctor completely, never realizing the care they were promised was never really available. That was the heart-sinking moment. That is when the decision was made to make this journey public, and to try to build the outlet this person had needed and never found.
Around that same time, the headlines kept arriving — article after article: court injunctions, regulator fines, lawsuits, and settlements against multiple insurance companies, with the details inside those allegations and findings pointing the same direction. It became hard to read it as a string of isolated accidents. This isn't one unlucky case. There are many. You can read that public record for yourself in our Press & enforcement gallery.
